π‘ Frequently Asked Questions on Prayer Times & Calculation
How are Islamic prayer times calculated?
Salat times are calculated from solar astronomy based on your city's exact latitude and longitude. Fajr begins when the sun is 18Β° below the horizon; Dhuhr begins just after solar noon; Asr starts when an object's shadow equals its length plus midday shadow (or twice length for Hanafi); Maghrib is immediately after sunset; and Isha begins when evening twilight completely disappears.
Which calculation method is best for India and South Asia?
For India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka, the University of Islamic Sciences (Karachi) calculation convention is the recognized standard. For Asr jurisprudence, the Hanafi school (shadow length Γ 2) is predominant in the subcontinent.
Can I check prayer times for any city worldwide?
Yes, MyIman supports real-time geolocation detection as well as worldwide city search. Supported calculation standards include ISNA (North America), Umm al-Qura (Makkah), Egyptian General Authority, and Muslim World League (MWL).
