Stories of the Prophets
"There was certainly in their stories a lesson for those of understanding." — Surah Yusuf (12:111)
Adam (as)
Created by Allah directly from earth and breathed into him the soul. Taught the names of all things, honored by the angels' prostration, but tricked by Iblis into tasting the forbidden tree. Adam and Hawwa (Eve) immediately made sincere Tawbah (repentance) with the prayer: 'Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers.' (7:23). Allah accepted their repentance and sent them to earth as His vicegerents.
Nuh (Noah) (as)
One of the Ulul-'Azm (five greatest Arch-Messengers). Preached monotheism tirelessly for 950 years through day and night with immense gentleness. When his corrupt people defiantly persisted in idol worship, Allah commanded him to construct the Ark. A great flood cleansed the earth, saving the believers and pairs of every living animal.
Ibrahim (Abraham) (as)
The patriarch of monotheism who questioned the idols of his ancestors using sharp intellect. Miraculously saved when tyrant Namrud threw him into a blazing furnace ('O fire, be coolness and safety upon Ibrahim'). He established the rites of Hajj, rebuilt the Kaaba with his son Ismail, and passed every supreme trial of sacrifice with absolute submission (Islam).
Ismail (Ishmael) (as)
Firstborn son of Ibrahim and Hajar, settled as an infant in the dry valley of Makkah where the well of Zamzam gushed beneath his feet. When his father shared his vision of sacrifice, young Ismail replied with legendary faith: 'O my father, do as you are commanded; you will find me, if Allah wills, of the patient.' Replaced with a ram from heaven, he co-built the Kaaba and is the ancestor of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
Yusuf (Joseph) (as)
Given half of all human beauty and the gift of dream interpretation. Betrayed by jealous brothers and cast into a deep well, sold into slavery in Egypt, falsely imprisoned for years while guarding his chastity, and eventually elevated to Minister of Finance, saving the civilization from famine and forgiving his brothers with peerless magnanimity.
Ayyub (Job) (as)
Blessed with wealth, health, and a large family, Ayyub was tested by the sudden loss of all his possessions, children, and enduring severe physical affliction for years. Never once complaining against Allah, he simply supplicated: 'Adversity has touched me, and You are the Most Merciful of the merciful.' (21:83). Allah restored his health, wealth, and family twofold.
Yunus (Jonah) (as)
Sent to the people of Nineveh. Leaving in frustration before Allah commanded him to depart, he boarded a ship that hit stormy seas. Cast overboard, a giant whale swallowed him whole by divine decree. In the triple darkness of the night, the deep sea, and the whale's belly, he called out: 'La ilaha illa Anta, Subhanaka, inni kuntu minaz-zalimeen' (There is no deity except You; exalted are You; indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers). Allah delivered him safely back to his people who all believed.
Musa (Moses) (as)
The most frequently mentioned prophet in the Quran. Placed as a baby in a basket on the Nile, raised in Pharaoh's palace, fled to Madyan, and called to prophethood at the Burning Bush on Mount Sinai. Confronted the tyrant Pharaoh with miracles (his staff turning into a serpent and glowing hand), parted the Red Sea, and guided Bani Isra'il with the Torah.
Dawud (David) (as)
Defeated the giant tyrant Jalut (Goliath) with a simple sling. Endowed with profound wisdom, kingship, the revealed scripture of Zabur (Psalms), and iron softened in his hands to weave protective chainmail armor. When he sang praises of Allah, the birds and mountains echoed his melody.
Sulayman (Solomon) (as)
Son of Dawud, granted an empire unlike any before or after: dominion over the winds, mastery over jinn, and the unique ability to understand the languages of birds, animals, and ants. Despite unfathomable majesty and wealth, his heart remained profoundly humble and grateful to Allah.
Isa (Jesus) (as)
Miraculously born to the Virgin Maryam (ra) without a human father. Spoke from the cradle to defend his mother's honor, cured the blind and leper by Allah's leave, breathed life into clay birds, and brought the Injeel (Gospel). Elevated physically to heaven by Allah, he will return before the Day of Judgment to establish peace and justice.
Muhammad ﷺ
The final prophet and universal messenger sent as a mercy to all creation. Orphaned early, known as Al-Amin, received the eternal miracle of the Holy Quran, weathered persecution in Makkah, established a society of brotherhood and justice in Madinah, and pardoned all enemies upon liberating Makkah.
🕊️ Respectful Depiction Note: In accordance with orthodox Islamic tradition and Quranic reverence, prophets and messengers of Allah are never depicted visually or figuratively. Their legacy is preserved through their eternal moral character, divine revelations, and righteous actions.
